He took great effort to select ordinary folks. So his first group of turtles consisted of a teacher, an accountant, a kitchen helper, a handful of women and an unemployed man.

The 13 students traveled to Chicago for training. Richard taught them his rules of trading during a rigorous two-week crash course. His rules were simple. The key was actually following the system.

Richard told them “you could publish my trading rules in the newspaper and no one would follow them. The key is consistency and discipline.”

After the two week training, Richard opened and funded small trading accounts for each of them. He monitored them for a month. Those that followed his rules successfully were given larger accounts to trade.
